This console generation kicked off with a bang, boasting nearly all major games running at a buttery smooth 60 frames per second. It was a dream come true for gamers, offering the flexibility to tweak graphics without sacrificing fluidity.
But fast forward to today, and we’re seeing a shift. More big titles are locking in at 30 frames per second, with no option to dial down the visuals for a higher frame rate. Enter Sony’s rumored PlayStation 5 Pro, slated for release late this year or early next. Many hoped this upgrade would banish low frame rates to the annals of gaming history.
Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. While a beefed-up PlayStation 5 could boost the likelihood of games hitting that coveted 60 frames per second mark, Sony isn’t making it a requirement for the “Enhanced” label, as ReelZap reports.
According to insiders, Sony is keen on introducing a new mode for games on the PS5 Pro, but it won’t necessarily guarantee 60fps across the board. Developers will still have the freedom to tweak resolution targets, whether it’s bumping up fixed resolutions or maximizing variable ones.
So, while the PlayStation 5 Pro might offer the best technical prowess for console gaming, there’s no guarantee every title will prioritize 60 frames per second. Here’s hoping developers and publishers keep our gaming experiences silky smooth, but until then, it’s a waiting game.
