The second season of The Finals, a popular first-person arena shooter, is set to launch later this week, bringing a plethora of exciting updates to the game. Among the highlights are a new 5v5 game mode called Power Shift, additional weapons and abilities for different character classes, and the introduction of private matches. This significant update continues to emphasize the game’s core feature of a destructible environment.
Power Shift, the new 5v5 mode, represents one of the most substantial changes, pitting two teams against each other in a battle for control over a platform reminiscent of the “King of the Hill” concept. The platform itself is capable of causing destruction in the environment and can be influenced by various objects and abilities. Additionally, players can now switch between light, medium, and heavy builds within this mode to better adapt to their opponents’ strategies.
Embark Studios, the developer behind The Finals, is also introducing new weapons and abilities tailored to each class. Medium-class players, for instance, gain access to the Dematerializer ability, allowing temporary removal of walls or ceilings to create strategic openings for shooting before sealing them back up.
They also receive the Data Reshaper tool, enabling the transformation of enemy defenses into harmless objects. Heavys, on the other hand, receive an Anti-Gravity Cube that induces floating for anything inside it, offering intriguing opportunities for gameplay. Lights now have the Gateway deployable portal, facilitating swift movement between locations for both allies and adversaries.
Moreover, season 2 introduces new weapons such as the 93R burst-fire machine pistol for lights; the FAMAS burst assault rifle for mediums, and the KS-23 slug shotgun for heavys. The season’s theme revolves around the game show being hacked by the CNS hacker collective, reflected in the addition of a glitchy neon-style city map featuring floating geometry, which alters the parkour dynamics within the arena.
For players seeking a more competitive experience, private matches are being introduced in season 2, catering to LAN tournaments and customized competitions. Additionally, a new League System for ranked play offers rewards and a structured career progression.
The launch of The Finals season 2 is scheduled for March 14th, with availability on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5 platforms.
