“The Boys” universe is expanding with a new spin-off series titled “Vought Rising,” set in the 1950s and exploring the origins of the Vought organization. The series will feature the return of familiar characters Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, and Stormfront, portrayed by Aya Cash. This new series adds to the growing “The Boys” franchise on Prime Video, which already includes the main series and another spin-off, “Gen V.”
Creator Eric Kripke revealed that his journey to get “Vought Rising” off the ground began four years ago with mixed results. In 2020, Kripke pitched two spin-offs to Amazon: “Gen V” and “Vought Rising.” While Amazon initially picked up “Gen V,” they left the door open for “Vought Rising” depending on the success of the first spin-off.
Kripke sees “Vought Rising” as a perfect fit for “The Boys” universe, which he describes as a film noir, cops-and-robbers story at its core. He draws inspiration from James Ellroy novels and envisions the series as “L.A. Confidential” with superheroes. This visual and thematic alignment with classic noir elements excites Kripke, who finds the concept both cool and compelling.
The project has also received high praise from Garth Ennis, co-creator of “The Boys” comics. Ennis, who has been a significant influence on the series, reportedly prefers “Vought Rising” over both “The Boys” and “Gen V,” according to Kripke. This endorsement is a strong indicator of the potential quality and appeal of the new series.
In other news within the franchise, “The Boys” is gearing up for its fifth and final season, which Karl Urban hinted might not air until 2026. Meanwhile, “Gen V” season 2 is in production and slated for release next year. As the main series approaches its conclusion, “Vought Rising” promises to keep fans engaged with fresh stories set in the rich and expanding universe of “The Boys.”
