At Tennocon 2024, Digital Extremes revealed a new gameplay trailer for Warframe: 1999, a narrative-focused expansion of the popular Warframe game. This spin-off quest, set in the late 1990s, features a mix of nostalgic elements and exciting action sequences. The trailer introduces a new boss fight where the challenge might extend beyond the game, potentially affecting players with a catchy tune that lingers in their minds.
The trailer begins in an abandoned shopping mall, evoking the retro atmosphere with old computers and arcade games. The storyline follows a team of Protoframes, led by Arthur, as they track down Dr. Entrati. Known to Warframe enthusiasts as the pioneer who connected with the Void, Dr. Entrati is a key figure in the quest’s narrative.
The gameplay footage highlights several new features, including the Atomicycle vehicle and the AX-52 rifle. Players will also experience a dramatic battle against a large tank, accompanied by late ’90s nu-metal music. Arthur’s team is introduced, featuring Amir, Aoi, and Quincy, with the latter showcasing the new Cyte-09 Warframe.
The trailer concludes with the debut of Technocyte Coda, an Infested version of a fictional boy band called On-lyne. Their “hit single,” “Party Of Your Lifetime,” is now available on major music streaming platforms, adding a unique musical twist to the Warframe universe.
Additional updates for Warframe include new Ember and Rhino Heirloom skins, a questline named The Lotus Eaters, and an anime short produced in collaboration with The Line, a London-based art studio. Warframe continues to be accessible on multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
