Supercell has unveiled its financial results for the fiscal year 2023, reporting a 4.2% decrease in revenue to €1.7 billion compared to the previous year.
CEO Ilkka Paananen, speaking during an earnings call, attributed this decline to a reduction in game sales in the first half of 2023 and the overall state of the mobile games market. However, he emphasized that the live games segment experienced growth in each quarter throughout the financial period, driven by the remarkable performance of Brawl Stars.
Paananen noted that Brawl Stars, which saw its player base triple since the previous summer, has emerged as the company’s flagship title.
The multiplayer battle royale game, launched in 2017, achieved a staggering $2 billion in revenue by last September.
In addition to its financial performance, Supercell disclosed that it contributed €110 million in taxes to the Finnish economy in 2023. The company also expanded its workforce by 175 individuals over the course of the year, bringing its total employee count to 525.
Furthermore, Supercell revealed that it surpassed 220 million monthly players across its portfolio.
Looking forward, Paananen expressed confidence in Supercell’s prospects for the upcoming year, citing the strength and scale of its team, as well as the release of new titles such as Clash Mini, Squad Busters, and Mo.co. He stated that the company is in a strong position to capitalize on opportunities in the market.
