In a recent interview reflecting on his legacy, Samoa Joe emphasized the significance of the AEW World Championship in defining his career. Speaking with Renee Paquette, he stressed his commitment to being a resilient and formidable champion.
“I think it’s [Samoa Joe’s legacy in this industry] very much linked to this championship,” he expressed. “And I think it’s very much linked to how I carry it and who I defend it against. I mean, these are no new concepts by any stretch of the imagination.
But, I think when I set out and started my career, I wanted to define myself as somebody who’d take on anything, any situation, any challenge, overcome it, and conquer it.
“That became an obsession and it’s still an obsession to this day. As long as I am alive and kicking in an AEW ring, I’ll be holding this championship, and if I’m not then I’ll be pursuing it.
And that’s always been my goals, and they’re pretty simple. They will always be my goals.”
