Sam Barlow, the renowned developer known for creating immersive FMV adventures such as Immortality, Telling Lies, and Her Story, has revealed that he is currently working on two new horror titles.
One of these projects is a third-person survival horror game designed specifically for fans of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, catering to the nostalgia of those who experienced the game back in the day.
The announcements for Barlow’s upcoming projects emerged on Steam, but much like the initial tease for Immortality, both pages contain heavy redactions, offering only glimpses of legible text and a couple of evocative mood videos.
The first project, referred to as Project C, is teased with a biblical verse from Corinthians. The visible text suggests that it will be a “new cinematic” experience, promising something unprecedented in the gaming world. The description hints at being “gifted with the kaleidoscopic future,” leaving room for intrigue.
Project D, the second horror title, is described as a “survival horror” game, and the visible words include “1983,” “nurse,” “in,” “Be careful,” and “nightmare.” Additional cryptic phrases like “Something bad… Some doors… Some doors… home?” add to the mysterious allure. The abstract imagery accompanying both games raises questions about a possible connection through a recurring eye motif.
Fortunately, Barlow didn’t leave fans completely in the dark. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games shortly after the enigmatic Steam debut of Project C and D, he provided more insights.
Project C is said to be in the tradition of Immortality, incorporating similar technology but taking a new and exciting direction. Described as a sci-fi horror with a “chunky mechanic” in a non-linear space, it promises to be a captivating puzzle box.
On the other hand, Project D is tailored for fans of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, offering a third-person survival horror experience. Barlow envisions a fusion of the Immortality team with a third-person survival horror game, creating a unique and intriguing gameplay experience.
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, released in 2009, was a significant departure from the original Silent Hill and marked Barlow’s final release at Climax Studios before embarking on his solo career with Her Story.
While Barlow has not disclosed a timeline for more detailed information about Project C and Project D, he mentioned in the interview that Immortality took almost two years to receive a proper reveal after its initial redacted tease, hinting at a potential wait for eager fans.
This exciting news about Barlow’s upcoming projects coincides with the PS5 release of his 2022 Hollywood horror title, Immortality, which has garnered positive reviews for its intricate storytelling and cinematic qualities.
As gamers from various preferences, including titles like Assassin’s Creed to Zoo Tycoon, eagerly await further updates, Barlow continues to captivate the gaming community with his innovative and immersive creations.
