Former WWE and ECW World Champion Rob Van Dam expresses his joy over the long-overdue recognition of Paul Heyman’s contributions to wrestling as he prepares for his Hall of Fame induction.
Announced earlier this month, Heyman’s inclusion in this year’s Hall of Fame class on April 5 is a testament to his multifaceted excellence in the industry.
From his role as Roman Reigns’ special counsel to his stints as a manager, commentator, writer, and the helm of ECW during its zenith, Heyman’s impact resonates deeply.
In a recent interview with Wrestle Binge, RVD, who flourished under Heyman’s guidance in both ECW and WWE, commends the decision to honor Heyman.
“It’s pretty cool they’re giving him his flowers because he was the man. He was the one that made ECW happen… he’s the guy that made everything possible,”
says Van Dam, acknowledging Heyman’s pivotal role in shaping his own career.
Reflecting on Heyman’s tenure in WWE, Van Dam recalls the initial resistance Heyman faced from some within the company due to his ECW background.
“When I was there back then… he didn’t get a lot of respect in the way of the other agents didn’t like ECW, were trying to fight it, didn’t want it to come in. They were giving him a hard time,”
shares Van Dam, highlighting the challenges Heyman encountered.
Van Dam emphasizes that ECW’s success was a testament to Heyman’s leadership, bravery, and unwavering passion. He expresses satisfaction in witnessing Heyman’s sacrifices culminate in this well-deserved recognition.
Heyman’s induction into the Hall of Fame coincides with a lineup of esteemed inductees, including Bull Nakano, the former WWF Women’s Champion, and the US Express, adding to the star-studded class of 2024.
