Project N, a video games marketing agency, has laid off approximately one-third of its staff as part of a strategic shift to streamline its services. This decision aligns with the company’s new focus on prioritizing video content. The layoffs came to light when two editorial team members, deputy editor Jack Ridsdale and senior staff writer Miri Teixeira, shared their experiences on social media.
Further confirmation of the layoffs was obtained by GamesIndustry.biz, which reached out to Network N, Project N’s parent company. Network N also oversees several media outlets, including PCGamesN, Pocket Tactics, and The Digital Fix. The parent company confirmed the layoffs, attributing them to a reduction in the variety of services offered by Project N.
Network N explained that this downsizing was part of a broader strategy to concentrate on fewer services, with a particular emphasis on video. This focus shift is a response to the current challenges in the gaming market, characterized by fewer new releases. Despite the layoffs, the company managed to reassign some staff members to other teams within the organization.
Project N’s website previously listed 22 employees, but following the layoffs, eight individuals have been let go. The company’s leadership expressed regret over the necessity of these layoffs but emphasized the importance of the strategic pivot to maintain efficiency and focus in their offerings.
James Binns, Network N’s executive chairman, stated that while the layoffs were unfortunate, they were necessary due to the company’s need to reduce costs in a market with fewer game releases. He also mentioned that three employees were successfully reassigned within the company, and he expressed gratitude for the contributions of all affected staff, wishing them well in their future endeavors.
