Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company of FromSoftware, has recently acquired Acquire, the renowned developer behind Octopath Traveler, as announced in its quarterly earnings report today.
The Japanese media conglomerate outlined its strategic move to bolster its game business by enhancing its capacity to create intellectual properties within the gaming sphere. This acquisition has resulted in Acquire becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kadokawa Corporation.
In a statement, Kadokawa Corporation expressed its anticipation of leveraging Acquire’s track record of producing million-selling titles.
They foresee substantial synergies with their existing game-related subsidiaries, envisioning strengthened planning and development capabilities across the group and an enriched lineup of console games.
Established in 1994, Acquire has an extensive history of developing titles for franchises associated with Kadokawa subsidiaries, including Spike Chunsoft’s Way of the Samurai and FromSoftware’s Tenchu.
This acquisition marks a significant step in Kadokawa’s strategy to consolidate and strengthen its presence in the gaming industry.
