Nintendo has revealed a new installment in the beloved Zelda series, marking a significant departure from tradition: for the first time, players will assume the role of Princess Zelda herself. Titled “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” the game is set to launch on September 26 exclusively for the Switch console.
This announcement comes amidst the franchise’s storied history, spanning over 140 million units sold since its inception in 1986, cementing its status as a cornerstone of gaming culture.
Traditionally, Zelda games have centered on Link, the courageous elf, on a quest to rescue Princess Zelda. However, “Echoes of Wisdom” flips this narrative as Link mysteriously disappears, leaving Zelda to take the lead.
This shift was confirmed by Eiji Aonuma, the series’ producer, in a Nintendo video release, showcasing gameplay reminiscent of 2019’s “Link’s Awakening” with its top-down perspective and puzzle-focused gameplay.
In “Echoes of Wisdom,” Zelda is joined by Tri, a mystical fairy companion, as they harness magical abilities to create and manipulate echoes of objects within the environment.
