Former UFC and WWE commentator Jimmy Smith recently shared his thoughts on MMA legend Ronda Rousey’s comments about her career and the media.
Rousey, known for her historic MMA career before transitioning to WWE, has faced criticism for her reactions to defeats against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.
In her book ‘Our Fight: A Memoir’ and subsequent interviews, Rousey attributed her silence on these losses to concerns about her concussion history affecting her career opportunities.
Smith, speaking on the Unlocking The Cage SiriusXM podcast, criticized Rousey’s stance, suggesting she wants credit without accepting accountability for her losses. He questioned her transition to WWE given her reported concussion issues and pointed out backstage rumors of her mistreatment of UFC staff, claiming she was unpopular among crew members.
Moreover, Smith contested Rousey’s views on the media, particularly her comments about veteran UFC commentator Joe Rogan and MMA journalists. Rousey implied a change in attitude from Rogan and others post-defeats, stating she felt betrayed by those she once thought supported her.
In response to Rousey’s assertions, Smith dismissed her claims of victimization, pointing to alleged mistreatment of UFC personnel and questioning her narrative.
Rousey, who has found success outside of combat sports, including entrepreneurship, remains a polarizing figure in the MMA community, with ongoing discussions about her legacy and impact.
