Matt Riddle, known for his outspoken nature, opened up candidly in a recent interview, shedding light on the challenges in his personal life.
Following his release from WWE in September 2023, Riddle found himself amidst unwanted attention due to his public divorce from Lisa Rennie.
During his appearance on MMA Hour, Riddle recounted the tumultuous events that led to his departure. He recalled the unexpected demand for separation from his wife, leaving him with no choice but to move out.
However, what surprised him even more was the discovery that his ex-wife had swiftly moved on with someone else.
Reflecting on the sequence of events, Riddle shared a surprising revelation during the conversation with Ariel Helwani:
“I think it was about a month or two later, and I came home, and she was like, ‘I want a divorce.’ She was like, ‘I want you out of the house.’ I got my stuff and said sorry to the kids. A week later, my kids hit me up and were like, ‘Why is Zac’s football coach living here?’ And it was my son’s PE coach, Rob. Nice guy, though! Nice guy (laughs).”
Riddle harbored no ill feelings towards Rob, acknowledging him as a good guy who treated his children well.
Despite the upheaval in his personal life, Riddle expressed no regrets. He recognized the challenges he faced in both MMA and pro wrestling but remained steadfast in his resolve:
“No [on if he had regrets]! You can’t. I don’t. I can’t. I guess anybody can sit back and say, ‘Man, if I would have done that.’ Like in the UFC, if I just didn’t smoke pot that day, I probably would have passed that last drug test.”
Since parting ways with WWE, Riddle has found success in NJPW, showcasing his passion for wrestling and proving that his competitive spirit remains undiminished.
