AEW luminary Matt Hardy finds himself in the twilight phase of his illustrious career, having dedicated close to three decades to the wrestling industry.
Yet, he’s not ready to fade away quietly. Hardy is currently engaged in negotiations for a new contract with All Elite Wrestling, a potential agreement that could mark his final full-time stint before retiring from active competition.
Despite nearing the end of his journey in the squared circle, what are Hardy’s aspirations?
In a recent interview with “WrestleZone,” Hardy articulated his belief that AEW would serve as an ideal platform to conclude his wrestling journey.
“I love AEW, I think AEW is crucial, I think it is paramount for the health of the industry that AEW does well, and I want it to do well,”
Hardy affirmed.
He proceeded to highlight the myriad achievements he and his brother have garnered throughout their careers, both individually and as a tag team, emphasizing the importance of maintaining relevance and securing a prominent position in the industry.
Drawing on Sting’s recent retirement as a reference point, Hardy illustrated how veteran talents from yesteryears can be effectively utilized in AEW.
He expressed hope that a similar opportunity would manifest for himself and his brother.
“I know I’ve only got a couple years left to do this, I want to be optimized wherever I’m at, and if I’m with Jeff, I want to be optimized as The Hardys.
That is very, very important to me, and that is a fight I am willing to fight because, if nothing else, I’ll just keep my a** at home; I don’t have to go to work anymore. I’ve worked really hard to put myself in this position.”
