Former WWE Divas Champion and spouse of Grand Slam Champion, The Miz, Maryse, recently shared a deeply personal update on her health journey via Instagram, offering a rare glimpse into her life beyond the wrestling ring.
Since departing from WWE in 2011, Maryse has kept a relatively low profile in the wrestling world, making intermittent appearances on WWE programming, often alongside her husband, The Miz. The couple has occasionally participated in Mixed Tag Team matches in recent years.
In a poignant Instagram post, the 41-year-old revealed a challenging chapter in her life, disclosing a diagnosis of a rare pre-cancer of the ovaries. Maryse detailed her year-long struggle with severe abdominal distention and swelling, which progressively worsened.
After consulting numerous doctors and undergoing an extensive battery of tests, Maryse expressed gratitude to Dr. Thais Aliabadi, an Oby-Gyn, whom she credited with potentially saving her life.
Maryse underwent Laparoscopy surgery with Dr. Thais about a week ago, initially believed to address potential Endometriosis disease. During the surgery, 11 implants were discovered and removed from around her uterus, ovaries, and connective tissues in the abdominal cavity.
These implants were identified as Serous Borderline Tumors, a rare pre-cancer of the ovaries. Maryse emphasized that had these implants turned cancerous, the survival rate would have been “less than a year.”
In her Instagram post, Maryse acknowledged the presence of “angels among us and above.” Looking forward, she shared that she is scheduled for total hysterectomy surgery in four weeks.
This upcoming procedure involves the removal of her uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, omentum, and abdominal lymph nodes for staging.
Despite the challenges she faces, Maryse concluded her message with a strong and positive note, expressing her determination to win this battle. The former WWE Superstar last appeared in the WWE ring in 2022, teaming up with The Miz in a match against Edge and Beth Phoenix.
