All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is facing a potentially devastating blow ahead of its sixth annual Double Or Nothing pay-per-view event, as top star Eddie Kingston’s status is uncertain due to a leg injury sustained at Saturday’s New Japan Resurgence event. Kingston, also known as “The Mad King,” was forced to relinquish the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship to Gabriel Kidd in a No Rope Last Man Standing match, where he suffered the injury.
According to eyewitnesses, Kingston was “banged up” after the match and required assistance to walk backstage, displaying a noticeable limp. Although the severity of the injury remains unknown, it has been confirmed that the 42-year-old wrestler is dealing with a legitimate injury.
Kingston’s injury could not have come at a worse time, as he was slated to participate in the highly anticipated Anarchy In The Arena match at Double Or Nothing alongside Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, and Bryan Danielson, taking on The New Elite team comprising Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada, Nick Jackson, and Matt Jackson.
As of now, AEW is still advertising Kingston for the match, but it remains to be seen if he will be cleared to compete. The company will likely re-evaluate his status in the coming days, possibly before this week’s Dynamite episode on Wednesday.
Kingston’s recent match record has been marked by a string of losses, including his last singles match against Mark Briscoe at ROH Supercard of Honor on April 5, where he dropped the ROH World Championship. He also lost the Continental Championship to Okada on AEW Dynamite just a few weeks prior.
The uncertainty surrounding Kingston’s participation at Double Or Nothing has sent shockwaves throughout the AEW universe, leaving fans anxiously waiting for updates on his condition. With the pay-per-view event mere weeks away, the wrestling world will be keeping a close eye on Kingston’s recovery progress, hoping that the charismatic wrestler can make a swift return to the ring.
