Logan Paul recently tackled the controversy surrounding PRIME Energy’s sponsorship of WWE’s center ring at WrestleMania 40, a move that received mixed reviews from fans and wrestling enthusiasts alike.
During a conversation on IMPAULSIVE, Paul shared his perspective on the groundbreaking sponsorship, acknowledging the criticism it generated, particularly from hardcore wrestling fans.
Despite the negativity, he highlighted the evolution of the wrestling landscape, emphasizing that the sport is entering a new era.
“Getting that center ring spot is interesting. It’s more positive reviews, but I think the die-hard wrestling fans are really upset. It’s never been done. Vince [Vince McMahon] was always really protective of the mat and not putting any brands on it,”
Paul remarked, shedding light on the unique nature of this sponsorship.
Paul further revealed that the decision to allow a brand on the center ring mat was influenced by the changing dynamics of the wrestling industry.
With TKO being a publicly traded company obligated to meet financial goals, the coveted center ring spot was inevitably going to be sold. In Paul’s words,
“That spot was going to be sold.”
However, rather than shying away from the controversy, Paul embraced it, recognizing an opportunity to enhance his heel persona.
“We saw an opportunity, and potentially an opportunity to make people hate me even more, because I am a heel, that’s kind of the angle I took,”
he stated.
Contrary to the concerns raised by fans, Paul expressed confidence that the sponsorship wouldn’t be as distracting as anticipated. He sees it as a progressive step that will eventually become a standard practice within the wrestling community.
“If we don’t have this spot forever, who knows, it’ll be somebody else. I promise, if you’re a die-hard WWE fan, you’ll forget about it. It’ll start to be standard practice, and I don’t think it’ll be as distracting as y’all think,”
Paul reassured.
In embracing change and challenging tradition, Logan Paul’s approach to the center ring sponsorship reflects the shifting dynamics and evolving landscape of professional wrestling.
