Laura Whitmore’s Prime Video Show “Date My Mate” has been canceled by the streaming platform. The 38-year-old assisted singletons in entrusting their romantic pursuits to their friends.
Contestants’ friends utilized an exclusive app to aid them in narrowing down their search. They could then swipe, match, and message on their behalf.
However, this marks the latest project fronted by the presenter to be axed. ITV previously announced the discontinuation of her Sunday program as well.
In February, Laura Whitmore’s Breakfast Show was also confirmed to not be renewed. Concurrently, Strictly star Oti Mabuse’s weekend show was also removed.
A TV insider disclosed to The Sun:
“Laura seems to have tried a variety of projects after leaving the villa, including chat shows and documentaries, but it seems even the familiar territory of a dating show isn’t a safe bet.”
At the beginning of the year, when her Sunday show was dropped, a source informed The Mirror:
“Laura and Oti’s shows not being renewed is in no way a reflection on them.”
“They both impressed with their hosting skills and personalities. Producers are keen to keep the slots fresh and introduce a new offering to viewers this Spring.”
Laura Whitmore, who previously hosted Love Island, is married to Love Island narrator Iain Sterling, who has been part of the show since its revival. She joined the show following Caroline Flack’s departure and remained after her tragic passing.
However, she stepped down as the show host after three years, in 2022, citing “conflicting projects” as a contributory factor.
She handed over the baton to Maya Jama, who continues to host the show. Shortly after stepping down, Laura began providing the voiceover for “Date My Mate.”
