PlayStation has revealed the initiation of Physint, a significant new venture in collaboration with Hideo Kojima, the renowned creator of Metal Gear Solid, aimed at “reinventing” the genre that has defined his legacy.
The forthcoming “next-generation action espionage game” will introduce a completely new intellectual property (IP), given that Metal Gear Solid remains under the ownership of Konami. In an additional dimension, it is announced that the project will not only manifest as a game but will also be adapted into a movie.
During Sony’s PlayStation State of Play event, Kojima shared, “Preparations are underway, but full-scale production will commence at Kojima Productions following the completion of Death Stranding 2,” which is anticipated to be released in 2025.
As the timeline suggests, this new venture is not set to debut anytime soon. Interestingly, there was no reference made to Kojima’s horror project, OD, which is currently being developed for Xbox.
Expressing the longstanding collaboration with Sony, Kojima remarked, “We have a rich history with Sony, having collectively shaped the espionage genre for nearly three decades. Sony’s diverse involvement in gaming, movies, and music ensures a robust collaboration.”
Looking ahead, Kojima emphasized, “Two years from now, I will mark the 40th anniversary of my game production career. I am confident that this title will serve as the pinnacle of my creative endeavors.”
Furthermore, he elaborated on the project’s unique approach, stating, “While fundamentally an interactive game, it also assumes the role of a movie, encompassing aspects such as appearance, narrative, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound. Through this title, our aspiration is to transcend the conventional boundaries that separate film and video games.”
