Ahead of the SmackDown segment of the 2024 WWE Draft, the official rules and draft pools have been disclosed. Notably, SmackDown will initiate the selection process with 16 picks, while RAW will follow suit with 24 picks on Monday.
Both nights will feature eligible NXT stars, and current champions are safeguarded from selection. The finalized rosters will be confirmed by May 6.
1. Interesting Inclusions in Draft Pools:
The draft pools for each night feature standard names, with intriguing additions like Braun Strowman and Odyssey Jones for RAW.
Despite Seth Rollins’ recent knee surgery, he remains eligible for SmackDown, contrary to the exclusion of other injured stars like Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair.
2. Exclusions from Draft Pools:
Notably absent from the draft pools are stars like Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, and Tamina, who have been inactive. Injured stars like Rollins are exceptions. Surprisingly, other injured talents like Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair are also excluded.
3. Delayed Roster Changes
The roster alterations from the WWE Draft won’t be immediate; they’ll be finalized by May 6. This allows current storylines to conclude, possibly leading to trades between RAW and SmackDown.
4. Protection of Current Champions:
Current titleholders on RAW and SmackDown are protected from the draft, except for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. This rule could lead to the dissolution of alliances like The Judgment Day and Damage CTRL.
5. Roman Reigns and The Bloodline:
Despite Roman Reigns’ absence, he’s listed with The Bloodline, alongside Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga. This suggests potential storyline shifts upon his return, raising questions about the group’s dynamics and Reigns’ reception.
