Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel are gearing up for their upcoming nuptials!
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE about HGTV’s Backed by the Bros — an upcoming real estate series featuring Jonathan and his twin brother Drew — the Celebrity IOU star shared insights into the multiple wedding celebrations he and his fiancée have in store.
“We know that the most important thing for us is to be surrounded by our loved ones,” Jonathan, 46, revealed to PEOPLE regarding their big day. “And we’re not planning to do a crazy, extravagant wedding. It’s going to be pretty intimate.”
Jonathan also disclosed that after the initial, smaller ceremony, he and Deschanel plan to organize a second celebration.
“We will probably throw another party just for friends here locally,” Jonathan elaborated. The couple, based in Los Angeles, resides in their jointly renovated 1938 “dream home.”
Despite playfully teasing the wedding location in an Instagram Reel in April, Jonathan confessed that he and Deschanel still haven’t finalized the details of the wedding.
“We haven’t nailed down exactly when and where,” he admitted.
Amidst the wedding preparations, Jonathan shared that he was recently treated to a special celebration by his fiancée in honor of his 46th birthday on April 28.
“Zooey is filming a movie in North Carolina, so I flew out there and she spoiled me and filled my day with great food, escape rooms and antique things,”
Jonathan recounted to PEOPLE.
Documenting the memorable day, Jonathan posted a heartwarming Instagram Reel on April 29, capturing moments of their shared meal, escapade in the escape room, and browsing through the antique store.
Jonathan and the Elf star, 44, initially crossed paths while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke with Drew and Deschanel’s sister Emily in 2019.
After four years of courtship, Jonathan proposed during a family vacation in Scotland in August 2023, with Deschanel’s children — daughter Elsie, 8, and son Charlie, 6 — playing a special role in the proposal.
