John Cena, often regarded as one of the greatest of his generation, recently addressed the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) debate in an interview on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet.”
Contrary to the narrative pushed by WWE, Cena refrained from claiming the title but acknowledged specific criteria for those who have left a lasting impact on the business.
Cena expressed,
“I would say people who elevate the business to new heights. This is just my perspective -– Hulk Hogan would have to be in there, Steve Austin, Dwayne Johnson, and Roman Reigns.”
Notably, Cena has previously praised Roman Reigns, highlighting the latter’s significant contribution to the industry.
Interestingly, Cena dismissed the notion of being the top guy in WWE during his career. He also commented on the evolving perspectives in the industry, addressing terms like “locker room leader.”
According to him, the championship should serve as the primary identifier, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on the essence of the sport.
Reflecting on his era, Cena acknowledged the presence of other major names who played pivotal roles. He emphasized that his success wouldn’t have been possible without the collective hard work of the entire roster.
“While I was there, you had people like Randy Orton, who’s had a tremendous career, Batista, Edge, CM Punk, heck, The Shield. I guess my throughline is nobody does it alone. I don’t exist without all the hard work of everybody else,”
Cena declared.
In shedding light on the collaborative nature of professional wrestling, Cena recognized the contributions of fellow wrestlers during his tenure.
His perspective highlights the interconnectedness of success in WWE, emphasizing the collective efforts that go into making the sport thrive. As Cena refrains from self-proclaimed titles, he acknowledges the collaborative spirit that defines the wrestling industry.
