Jim Ross has experienced a more relaxed schedule within AEW in recent years, primarily due to ongoing health issues. His journey began with a cancer diagnosis in late 2021, leading to radiotherapy treatment and a temporary hiatus from television.
However, Ross triumphantly returned to AEW after successfully overcoming cancer. In February 2024, he underwent a second surgery, this time on his right hip, marking another chapter in his health journey.
Despite making a memorable appearance at AEW Revolution 2024 to commentate on Sting’s retirement match, Ross has not resumed full-time work.
Nevertheless, during a recent episode of the “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross shared his relief at having his chest ports removed, a step he eagerly awaited.
Reflecting on the procedure, Ross expressed, “I’m sure glad to get those things out… I got two or three days to just leave it alone and let it heal, but I said this on Twitter, I think it was yesterday… it’s another step on the road to healing. So that’s where we are, it’s sore today, but I ain’t got to screw with it no more.”
Furthermore, Ross mentioned an upcoming evaluation with his surgeon to assess his hip’s recovery progress since the February surgery.
He also highlighted a specific date on his calendar for his potential return to AEW Dynasty on April 21, expressing excitement at the prospect of calling Bryan Danielson and Will Ospreay’s match in St. Louis.
“I sure hope that works out because I would do just about anything to call Bryan Danielson and Will Ospreay. I think that’s going to be… if it’s not match of the year, or if it doesn’t get five stars, I would be surprised,”
Ross remarked.
