Jacob Bertrand, star of Cobra Kai, shared details about the upcoming Karate Kid movie, which he learned from his co-star Ralph Macchio. According to Bertrand, Macchio has been keeping him updated on the film’s progress and spoke highly of working with Jackie Chan, who Macchio described as still moving like he’s in his 20s. Despite being nervous about fighting Chan, Macchio said the fight scenes went well and he was excited for the film.
The new Karate Kid movie was officially announced in November 2023, though rumors about its development surfaced as early as 2022. The film will feature both Macchio and Chan as mentors to a new kid learning martial arts. Jonathan Entwistle is directing, and the screenplay is written by Rob Lieber. The movie promises to introduce a fresh cast while maintaining connections to the beloved franchise.
During filming, Bertrand kept in touch with Macchio, who praised the young cast but jokingly told Bertrand that no one could match his skills. Bertrand humorously exaggerated Macchio’s compliments, claiming he was called a “God,” adding a playful twist to the conversation about the new talent in the movie.
Although the Cobra Kai cast and crew aren’t involved with the new Karate Kid movie, Bertrand hinted that a Cobra Kai film could happen in the future. Cobra Kai, set to conclude after six successful seasons on Netflix, is being split into three parts for its final run, which Bertrand says wasn’t the cast’s idea but promises fans it will be worth the wait.
The second part of Cobra Kai Season 6 is set to release on November 15, while the new Karate Kid movie is slated to hit theaters on May 30, 2025. Bertrand remains excited about both projects and continues to engage with fans through interviews and updates on his other work, including Netflix’s One Piece.
