In a recent revelation, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan took credit for introducing Mark Calaway, famously known as The Undertaker, to the WWE.
Hogan shared the story during a video on his official website, recalling their meeting on the set of the 1991 film, Suburban Commando. Impressed by Calaway’s size and physique, Hogan arranged for him to play a role in the movie as a bounty hunter.
“We became really good friends, and once we were done, I said, ‘Man, you should come to New York.’ So I brought Mark Calaway in to meet Vince [McMahon], and Vince took a long look at him,”
Hogan recounted.
McMahon, impressed by Calaway’s stature, decided to name him The Undertaker, a moniker that Hogan initially doubted would work.
Despite Hogan’s skepticism, The Undertaker’s iconic persona was born, becoming one of the most legendary characters in WWE history.
The Undertaker Finds Closure at WrestleMania 40
At WrestleMania 40, The Undertaker made a surprise appearance, aiding Cody Rhodes in his victory over Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Reflecting on his involvement, The Undertaker expressed that the event provided him with closure, something he felt was missing since his retirement match against AJ Styles in 2020.
“Something happened this weekend, and I’ve been struggling with it since I retired. But this weekend gave me closure,” The Undertaker revealed on his Six Feet Under podcast. He described the WrestleMania moment as a “moment of clarity,” indicating that he now feels at peace with his wrestling career.
As for Hogan’s claim of bringing him to WWE, The Undertaker has yet to comment. However, considering the timeline discrepancy—Suburban Commando was released after The Undertaker had already signed with WWE—it raises questions about the accuracy of Hogan’s recollection.
