Even though it has been three years since the initial announcement of the Highlander reboot, Henry Cavill remains the lead actor in Chad Stahelski’s upcoming project.
“I’m not ready to divulge that information just yet,” Cavill responded to ComicBook.com’s inquiry about what audiences can anticipate. “There’s still a substantial amount of work on my part. I can assure you it’s going to be quite an intense journey.”
Cavill reiterated a similar sentiment in a conversation with Collider, stating, “The training is about to commence earnestly. It’s going to be an extensive training process, and I’m genuinely thrilled to embark on it. I can only reveal so much at the moment. I aim to keep everything under wraps for as long as possible.”
Back in 2021, it was initially disclosed that Cavill would be taking on the role of Connor Macleod, the last immortal Highlander, in the revamped film franchise.
The Highlander franchise commenced in 1986 with a movie featuring Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, Roxanne Hart, and Christopher Lambert, narrating an ancient war among immortals. The success of the inaugural film spawned multiple sequels, TV shows, books, video games, comics, and an abundance of merchandise.
Stahelski shed light on their approach during a podcast last year, stating, “We’re looking to tell our story [and it] incorporates a lot of the same characters and elements. However, we’ve also incorporated aspects from all the TV shows. We have a plethora of ideas on how to create captivating characters and turn them into an epic TV show. I believe it’s a remarkably rich mythology.”
The forthcoming film is set in modern-day New York City and is scheduled for release in 2026. For more information, explore our compilation of the most anticipated films in 2024 and beyond.
