Have no fear, champions of democracy: Helldivers 2 players who abandon operations in pursuit of fast XP gains are only deceiving themselves.
To provide some background, there exists a popular albeit questionable method for XP farming in Helldivers 2. It involves locating a multi-part operation, swiftly completing the mission with the highest yield of easy kills and samples, and then departing the operation with a stash of XP.
While not particularly fair, the extent to which this practice bolstered the Automatons (and, in other instances, the bugs) against the remaining players remained uncertain until now.
The game’s community manager, known as Evil-Bosse on Discord, stated in a recent update that “quitting after only half the [operation] counts as a loss for Super Earth.” However, it has been revealed that this assertion is inaccurate.
“I can confirm that abandoning an operation does not advance the enemy’s percentage, so people who leave operations do not detrimentally affect a planet,” clarified another Arrowhead community developer under the name Misty. “Regrettably, Evil-Bosse made an error, but we all make mistakes!”
In essence, XP farmers are now exempt from blame, or at least they are no longer the primary target. Departing operations in pursuit of swift rewards isn’t harming anyone—it’s simply not aiding anyone aside from the XP farmers themselves, which aligns closely with undemocratic behavior.
It is indeed within the spirit of democracy that individuals may act as they see fit, and in this instance, it technically harms no one. So, carry on grinding, XP farmers, but be aware that your freedom-loving peers are disapprovingly shaking their heads as they tidy up the missions you left unfinished.
