Gunther’s reign as Intercontinental Champion was marked by successful title defenses against top competitors like Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, and Braun Strowman.
His last televised victory came against Jey Uso, aided by interference from Jimmy Uso.
Veteran commentator Jim Ross expressed interest in a potential feud between Gunther and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
