Former WWE Superstar Jacques Rougeau, renowned as The Mountie and a former Intercontinental Champion, recently delved into an enlightening experience he had with wrestling icon Ric Flair, shedding light on a fundamental aspect of professional wrestling.
Rougeau reminisced about a significant match against Flair during Flair’s tenure as the WWE World Champion.
Despite Rougeau’s lesser stature in terms of popularity compared to Flair, the wrestling legend ensured to boost Rougeau’s performance by taking impactful bumps and effectively showcasing the French-Canadian superstar’s abilities.
This encounter proved pivotal in Jacques’ comprehension of a crucial element IN professional wrestling.
In an interview on UnSKripted, the former WWE Tag Team Champion elaborated on his realization that pro wrestling is not solely about individual performance but also about enhancing the credibility and prowess of one’s opponent.
Recalling his interaction with Flair before their match, Rougeau recounted,
“I go like, excuse me Mr. Flair I am gonna be working with you today. What do you wanna do? [He says] ‘Don’t worry about it, we will call it out there kid.’ That’s what he told me.” Rougeau vividly described the sequence of moves orchestrated by Flair during their match, highlighting Flair’s willingness to collaborate and ensure both performers shined in the ring.
Upon questioning Flair’s decision to put him over, Rougeau received invaluable insight into the dynamics of wrestling. Flair emphasized the importance of mutual elevation, stating,
“From that day on I always learnt the business, that the better you make your opponent look when you go over, the better you will look.”
Presently, Jacques Rougeau remains engaged in the wrestling industry, albeit retired from active competition, continuing to impart wisdom gleaned from his illustrious career to aspiring talents.
