Earlier this month, EA and Respawn made significant changes to the Apex Legends battle pass, which triggered a strong backlash from the player community. In response to the negative feedback, the developers have decided to reverse some of the most contentious alterations.
They announced on social media that with the release of Season 22, players will once again be able to purchase the Premium Battle Pass for 950 Apex Coins, addressing the criticism they received.
Historically, players could use Apex Coins to buy battle passes, with the opportunity to earn enough coins to purchase future passes through gameplay. However, the initial changes proposed that battle passes would shift to a cash-only model, eliminating the option to earn them in-game.
This move was met with widespread disapproval, resulting in over 72,000 negative reviews on the Apex Legends Steam page in response to the announcement.
While the standard battle pass will return to being purchasable with Apex Coins, some new aspects will still be implemented. There will be two battle passes per season, requiring players to make purchases more frequently.
Additionally, new cash-only options—Ultimate and Ultimate+—will offer extra rewards at $9.99 and $19.99, respectively. Despite an infographic detailing these changes, many fans remain unclear about whether the base battle passes will include reactive skins.
The developers have acknowledged the need for better communication and have pledged to address player concerns more effectively in the future. They emphasized their commitment to focusing on critical issues such as cheating, game stability, and quality-of-life updates.
As part of this commitment, improvements and bug fixes will be introduced in Season 22, with further details to be released in the Patch Notes on August 5, 2024.
The developers have responded to player feedback by reverting some of the controversial changes while introducing new features. They have committed to improving transparency and addressing key issues affecting the game, promising more detailed updates and fixes in the upcoming season.
