According to a report by GLHF from Sports Illustrated, sources within ZA/UM revealed that the company’s CEO, Ilmar Kompus, notified employees of the layoffs via a message. The message apparently indicated that the layoffs would affect 24 employees, including those working on the X7 project as well as various non-development teams.
Further details obtained by GLHF indicate that employees in roles such as writers, engineers, artists, production staff, IT personnel, and animators are also at risk of being made redundant.
Speculation surrounds the nature of the X7 project, with sources suggesting it was intended to be an expansion of Disco Elysium. During a call with staff, ZA/UM president Ed Tomaszewski purportedly mentioned that the project was still “one to two years away from completion,” adding to the disappointment surrounding its cancellation.
