On this edition of the Eurogamer Newscast, our focus turns to Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct 2024, providing our initial insights into what lies ahead in the coming year from one of the prominent players in the console industry.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, crafted by the acclaimed Wolfenstein developer MachineGames. Positioned as Microsoft’s response to Uncharted, this blockbuster action-adventure promises an engaging experience.
Alongside this, we were treated to the highly anticipated Hellblade 2, the visually stunning sequel from Ninja Theory that has been on our radar for quite some time.
The presentation also introduced Avowed, a fantasy RPG designed to cater to those patiently awaiting the next installment in the Elder Scrolls series.
With a promise of vibrant role-playing experiences, it serves as an alternative for those seeking more color in their gameplay compared to Starfield. Additionally, we got a glimpse of Visions of Mana from Square Enix and Ara: History Untold for PC.
The question that lingers is whether this lineup was sufficient to create a compelling showcase and, more importantly, establish the tone for what we hope will be a more successful year of Xbox first-party launches compared to 2023.
Joining me for this discussion are Eurogamer’s Ed Nightingale, Victoria Kennedy, and Liv Ngan. Together, we delve into the details and assess the potential impact of Microsoft’s offerings on the gaming landscape in the coming year.
