In your latest mission within Helldivers 2, the task at hand is clear: eliminate 15 Devastators. If you’ve found yourself immersed in the ongoing battle against the Automatons at Malevelon Creek, chances are your nights haven’t been particularly restful.
The relentless onslaught of adversaries, particularly the formidable Devastators and their ilk, tends to keep even the most seasoned Helldivers on edge. So, let’s delve into where to locate these imposing foes and how best to neutralize them.
What exactly are Devastators?
Devastators represent a substantial upgrade from the standard Automaton fare. Clad in heavy armor plating that shields most of their form, save for their unmistakable glowing red visages, these adversaries wield formidable automatic rifles. Their robust build renders them highly resistant to conventional weaponry, making them a formidable threat on the battlefield.
Here’s a visual of a defeated Devastator below the yellow panel:
It’s worth noting that the larger Automatons wielding chainsaw appendages do not fall under the Devastator classification. Therefore, if your objective is to dispatch Devastators specifically, your focus should be on targeting the standard, smaller, yet heavily armored variants.
Where can they be found?
For those engaged in the conflict against the Automatons, Devastators are a ubiquitous presence. They often serve as reinforcements to smaller robotic units, either through Bot Drops or routine patrols across the planet’s surface. Venturing into the heart of the Automaton (red) warfront is your best bet for encountering these formidable adversaries.
Any planet residing within a red zone is likely to harbor Devastators, with Malevelon Creek standing out as a particularly notorious hotspot. While encounters with Trivial difficulty may be sporadic, undertaking Defense missions on easy difficulty and beyond promises a higher concentration of these imposing foes.
Strategies for engagement:
When it comes to tackling Devastators, exploiting their weaknesses is key to success. Aim for their exposed facial regions, as they are notably vulnerable to headshots—a tactic reminiscent of dealing with many adversaries in the pursuit of freedom.
Targeting their midsection can prompt rapid disassembly, significantly hastening their demise. Personally, I favor employing the Breaker automatic shotgun, readily available through the Warbond, for swift and efficient elimination. However, an array of weapons, including grenade launchers and armor-piercing ordnance like the Anti-Material Rifle, can prove equally effective.
For solo operatives, leveraging top-tier Helldivers 2 Stratagems is highly recommended. Deploying assets such as the Guard Dog ‘Rover’ for additional support, alongside Gatling, Machine Gun, and Mortar Sentries positioned strategically in elevated positions, can greatly enhance your survivability and streamline civilian extraction efforts—barring any unfortunate incidents of ‘friendly fire.’
