Cody Rhodes has been reigning supreme as the Undisputed WWE Champion since his monumental victory over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL on April 7. As the American Nightmare continues to defend his title, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has cautioned fans against making premature judgments about Rhodes’ tenure as champion.
Rhodes has successfully defended his title against AJ Styles at Backlash France and Logan Paul at King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia, solidifying his position as the top dog in the WWE. However, some critics have expressed disappointment, suggesting that his title reign has not been as electrifying as expected. Bischoff, speaking on his 83 Weeks show, defended Rhodes, explaining that it’s unfair to expect him to replicate the same level of excitement and anticipation that built up to his WrestleMania victory.
Since defeating Reigns, Rhodes has also notched up victories in non-televised matches against AJ Styles, Dominik Mysterio, and Shinsuke Nakamura, in addition to a non-title win over Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown. Despite these accomplishments, the buzz around his title reign has been somewhat muted.
Bischoff attributes this to the enormity of the storyline leading up to WrestleMania XL, which centered around Rhodes’ quest to become the first member of his legendary family to win a WWE world title. The added twist of The Rock’s heel turn only added to the anticipation and excitement. With The Rock currently absent from WWE due to filming commitments, Bischoff predicts that another heel will emerge as a top contender for Rhodes’ title.
