Following his momentous victory at WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes is poised for a formidable reign as WWE’s undisputed champion. In a recent interview, Cody discussed the prospect of facing The Rock in a singles match, expressing openness to the idea in the future.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, a pivotal figure in WWE’s recent storyline leading up to WrestleMania, was a formidable opponent for Cody Rhodes as part of The Bloodline faction.
Despite their intense rivalry, Rhodes emerged triumphant, creating a memorable moment at ‘Mania. With The Rock currently focused on his Hollywood commitments, Cody discussed the potential of a showdown on Good Morning Britain.
Cody emphasized that The Rock’s return would hinge on his performance as champion, stating, “I want to say yes. I think it will really come down to, can I be a good champion?
Not even a great champion. Roman Reigns was a great champion. Would that be enough to entice The Rock? Because that’s what’s happened here. The Rock would tell you he made wrestling cool again.”
While acknowledging The Rock’s significant impact on WWE’s popularity, Cody credited the current era of performers for revitalizing the wrestling terrain. He highlighted stars like Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, and Rhea Ripley for expanding WWE’s reach in recent years.
Looking ahead, Cody expressed optimism that WWE’s continued success could attract The Rock back into the fold for a potential dream match. He noted,
“Rock made wrestling cool, maybe in the first place, but this run, it’s a whole new generation, a whole new locker room. I think the more we keep this, the better we do, and the more chances it lures Rock back into the fray.”
In his first title defense, Cody Rhodes faces the challenge of living up to Roman Reigns’ historic reign. Set to defend the championship at Backlash in France, Rhodes awaits the winner of the upcoming SmackDown match between AJ Styles and LA Knight.
With fresh contenders emerging, Cody aims to begin his reign on a strong note, setting the stage for an impactful championship run.
