Cody Rhodes stands on the brink of WrestleMania 40, poised for an epic clash against wrestling titans The Rock and Roman Reigns, alongside tag team partner Seth Rollins.
The anticipation is palpable as fans await Night One’s showdown, followed by a one-on-one confrontation with The Tribal Chief on Night Two. However, amidst the fervor, doubts linger about Rhodes’s ultimate fate in this high-stakes saga.
Having tasted defeat against Roman Reigns at last year’s WrestleMania, failing to secure the Universal Championship, Rhodes now faces a pivotal moment.
Should he emerge victorious on Night One, The Bloodline will be barred from ringside during his subsequent bout with Reigns. Conversely, a loss would subject Rhodes to face Reigns under Bloodline rules—a daunting prospect indeed.
Eric Bischoff, esteemed WWE Hall of Famer, weighs in on the match’s potential outcome, expressing his expectation for Rhodes to triumph.
Yet, he acknowledges the possibility of a different narrative trajectory, suggesting that WWE may have devised a “much better plan” should Rhodes falter.
“I’ll be shocked if they don’t (have Cody Rhodes win), and if they don’t it’s because they’ve come up with a much better plan,”
remarked Bischoff.
However, amidst the optimism, concerns arise about the sustainability of fans’ allegiance to Rhodes. Konnan, on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, voices apprehension over potential shifts in fan sentiment.
He points to a cryptic moment during a RAW episode where The Rock whispered something to Cody, hinting at possible future developments.
“A great visual which shows the hold that he has with the crowd when everybody is pointing to the WrestleMania sign with Cody. I can just see these same people turning on him in a year or two. I just hope that this isn’t like the devil storyline in AEW, where at the end you’re like, ‘Really, this is who it is?”
remarked Konnan.
As Rhodes remains the beloved protagonist, eagerly awaited to ‘finish the story,’ the precarious nature of fan loyalty looms large. While he has basked in adulation as the top babyface for the past year, history suggests that WWE fandom can be fickle.
Only time will reveal whether Konnan’s forebodings will materialize, adding yet another layer of intrigue to Rhodes’s WrestleMania odyssey.
