Wrestling veteran Matt Morgan sees potential in a compelling matchup at WWE WrestleMania 40, suggesting that Bron Breakker could challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.
Matt Morgan, recognized as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, shared his insights on the Gigantic Pop podcast, endorsing the idea of Bron Breakker, a two-time NXT Champion, facing Gunther. The co-host, Raj Giri, proposed the matchup, emphasizing the impact it could have:
“[You have Bron beat him and a star is born. And then Gunther moves on to the World Title. What do you think?] As long as it’s Gunther moving on to the World Title, okay. Man, I can’t say I’d hate that match. I would love that match. I would love that match. That’d be very hard-hitting too. (…) I like that. I like Bron Breakker. All right, I’ll go with that,” Morgan expressed.
Gunther, formerly known as WALTER, has an impressive history as the Intercontinental Champion, with a reign lasting over 600 days. Throughout his tenure, he successfully defended the title against formidable opponents like Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, and Rey Mysterio.
In the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match last month, Bron Breakker showcased his prowess, lasting over five minutes and eliminating four competitors before being ousted by Dominik Mysterio. The 26-year-old, a second-generation WWE Superstar, hinted at his promotion to the main roster in a post-match backstage interview:
“I think tonight, I proved that I belong on the main roster. This is my home now, and I’m ready for the work. I’m ready to prove to my peers and to the people and to everyone out there who believes in me that this is where I belong. This is what I was born to do, and I’m here. I’m ready to go,” Breakker declared.
Having made appearances on SmackDown and RAW post-Royal Rumble, Bron Breakker’s potential move to the main roster has garnered attention, and his addition to either brand promises to bring an impactful dynamic to WWE’s wrestling landscape.
