WWE 2K24 is set to hit the shelves in a matter of weeks, with some lucky players getting their hands on it as early as March 5. However, the excitement surrounding the game has been tempered by the real-life legal issues plaguing the wrestling giant.
CEO Vince McMahon found himself embroiled in a lawsuit filed by a former WWE employee alleging sexual misconduct. This legal saga also implicated wrestling star Brock Lesnar, raising questions about their inclusion in the upcoming game.
In the latest update, 2K has unveiled the official roster for WWE 2K24, finally laying to rest the speculation about McMahon and Lesnar’s involvement. It’s confirmed that neither figure will be part of the main lineup of over 200 playable characters. However, insider information obtained by GameSpot sheds light on their presence within the game.
According to a source familiar with the game’s development, while McMahon and Lesnar won’t be playable characters, they will still feature in certain aspects of WWE 2K24. “We are always in lockstep with the WWE on how our game reflects what’s happening in the WWE universe,” the source explained. “Certain personalities play a role in the historical 2K Showcase and in the narrative-driven MyRise experience but are not available on the playable roster.”
GameSpot has reason to believe that the iconic match between Lesnar and Undertaker from WrestleMania 30 will be included in WWE 2K24.
Despite its omission from past editions due to timing, this monumental clash, where Lesnar ended Undertaker’s WrestleMania winning streak, is expected to be a highlight in the game’s Showcase mode.
Matches like Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 17, featuring McMahon, are confirmed for inclusion, suggesting that certain sequences involving Lesnar and McMahon could also be part of the game.
While McMahon and Lesnar may not be playable characters, they are likely to play roles in the game’s story mode, MyRise. Furthermore, given the game’s robust create-a-wrestler feature, fans can anticipate community-made versions of these personalities shortly after launch.
Hence, despite their absence from the official roster, McMahon and Lesnar will still make their presence felt in WWE 2K24 through both official and unofficial channels.
WWE 2K24 is scheduled for release on March 8, with an early launch on March 5 for those purchasing the Deluxe or WrestleMania editions of the game.
