Bloober Team convinced Konami that releasing their joint Silent Hill 2 remake on PC would be a beneficial move. Despite the PlayStation 5 being anticipated as the primary sales platform due to the original game’s association with the PS2, Bloober Team’s expertise in PC development made them advocate for a PC release.
The developers are confident that the Steam version will attract significant interest, alongside the PlayStation version.
Karolina Nowak, Bloober Team’s vice president and CFO, mentioned that they nudged Konami towards considering a PC release, based on their belief in the platform’s potential success.
Nowak emphasized that the Steam version had already garnered attention, signaling positive anticipation for its launch. This push aligns with Bloober Team’s preference for multiplatform releases, despite the game initially being announced solely for PlayStation.
This strategy mirrors the recent success of Capcom’s multiplatform releases for its Resident Evil series. Capcom saw substantial sales by making its horror games available on multiple platforms simultaneously.
While Silent Hill 2 is set to follow a similar approach with a PC launch, it won’t be available on Xbox until at least next year, likely due to an exclusivity deal with Sony that temporarily blocks the game from the platform.
The Silent Hill 2 remake, launching on October 8, could potentially mark the beginning of a larger revival for the series, much like what happened with Resident Evil 2 when its remake was released. Bloober Team and Konami are reportedly excited about their partnership, and the positive reception of the project could lead to further collaborations between the two companies in the future.
Nowak hinted that their work with Konami may not be over, suggesting that their partnership could extend beyond the Silent Hill 2 remake. The success of this venture might open the door for additional projects, potentially solidifying an ongoing relationship between Bloober Team and Konami in the gaming industry.
