Bloober Team has chosen to remake Silent Hill 2 instead of the original Silent Hill. Creative director Mateusz Lenart explained that the sequel fits better with the studio’s creative style and strengths. He pointed out that Silent Hill 2 offers a more personal and emotional story, which aligns with Bloober Team’s focus on human experiences and feelings, contrasting with the occult themes present in the earlier and later games in the series.
The studio’s emphasis on personal and emotional storytelling is central to their approach. Bloober Team is known for crafting games that deal with psychological and emotional themes, which is a significant feature of Silent Hill 2. This focus on emotional depth distinguishes it from the supernatural and occult themes of the original game and others in the series.
Lead producer Maciej Głomb supported the choice by noting that Silent Hill 2 has influenced their previous work. He mentioned that even in games like Layers of Fear, which have different gameplay mechanics, elements such as multiple endings were inspired by Silent Hill 2. This connection highlights how the sequel’s unique aspects have shaped Bloober Team’s earlier projects and their decision to remake it.
However, Głomb also acknowledged that the decision was influenced by Konami’s plans for the franchise. Konami is working on other new titles, including Silent Hill f and Silent Hill Townfall, so the remake had to fit within a broader strategy. This alignment with Konami’s vision played a significant role in the decision to focus on Silent Hill 2.
The remake of Silent Hill 2 is scheduled for release on PC and PS5 on October 8. Early previews, including one from GamesRadar’s Jasmine Gould-Wilson, suggest that the remake stays true to the original while updating it for modern audiences. The preview indicates that the game maintains the core elements that made the original a classic, with a blend of excitement and cautious optimism for the final release.
