Kotaku has recently revealed that Artificer, a Polish game development studio, has undergone a significant downsizing, affecting approximately half of its workforce, totaling around 25 individuals.
The studio’s most recent release, Showgunners, a turn-based tactics game, debuted on Steam in May and has garnered a “Very Positive” review average.
According to Kotaku, additional layoffs are anticipated, with an estimated 10-12 of the remaining developers expected to stay on board “for a few months” to complete the development of Artificer’s upcoming game, after which they will also face termination.
Despite the development, Devolver Digital, the owner of Artificer, has not provided an immediate response to inquiries seeking comments on the matter.
Devolver Digital took over Artificer in January 2021 through the acquisition of the studio’s parent company, Good Shepherd Entertainment. Good Shepherd initially obtained a controlling interest in Artificer back in 2019.
