As WWE superstar AJ Styles prepares to face Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title at Backlash France, he has opened up about his retirement plans.
In an interview with SHAK Wrestling, the 46-year-old phenom revealed that while he enjoys his time in the ring, he doesn’t want to overstay his welcome.
Styles, who joined WWE in 2016 after a brief stint earlier in his career, has become one of the top superstars in the company, winning the WWE Championship twice.
However, he acknowledged that there is a “finish line” in sight, although he’s not willing to share exactly when that will be.
The Phenomenal One expressed his desire to retire on his own terms, rather than being told it’s time to hang up his boots.
“I don’t want to get to a point where…you’re going, ‘Ugh, oh, man, maybe it’s time for him to get out,'”
Styles said.
“I feel pretty good right now. I really do.”
He also emphasized the importance of using his “bump card” sparingly and positively, ensuring that every move he makes is impactful and entertaining.
Despite his thoughts on retirement, Styles is focused on capturing the WWE Championship again at Backlash France.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, he vowed to dethrone Cody Rhodes and prove that he can still be the top guy in the company.
“It’s my opportunity to show I can still be the guy, make sure everybody looks great, and make it entertaining,” Styles said.
Rhodes, who successfully defended his title against Shinsuke Nakamura at a live event in Italy, will undoubtedly provide stiff competition for Styles. However, The Phenomenal One is confident in his abilities and is excited to feed off the energy of the crowd at Backlash France.
With Styles’ determination and experience on one side and Rhodes’ momentum and skill on the other, their match at Backlash France promises to be an unforgettable encounter. Will Styles emerge victorious and capture the championship once again, or will Rhodes continue his reign as Undisputed WWE Champion? Only time will tell.
