Throughout his career, former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has sported iconic ring gear, influenced by his passion for video games.
His stylistic choices have often stood out in the wrestling world. However, there was a moment when Omega’s gear became a hindrance during a match.
In a recent Twitch stream, Omega recounted an incident from his time with WRP (Wrestling Retribution Project), a promotion aiming for a filming style akin to Lucha Underground.
Omega was cast as Scott Carpenter, and during a match with fellow AEW star Luther, known as Father Dante in WRP, Omega executed a shooting star press to his feet after throwing Luther out of the ring.
Despite the flawless execution, Omega heard calls to cut the cameras. Why? Due to an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction for Mr. Carpenter.
“Tommy Dreamer was the one to call for cutting the camera,”
Omega recounted.
“I approached Tommy, asking ‘Tommy, what’s going on?’
He responded,
‘Kenny, we need to cut it,’ and I insisted, ‘WHY?!’ I stood up to Tommy, demanding to know the reason, and he said, ‘Kenny, your b***s are hanging out.’ I looked down, adjusted my tights, and that was it, my wardrobe malfunction.”
Omega noted that he was wearing traditional black trunks, as the WRP decision-makers hadn’t deemed it necessary to create specialized gear for Scott Carpenter. Had they done so, they might have avoided the momentary exposure of Omega’s wardrobe malfunction.
