Vampire Survivors, while still curiously lacking in vampires, has received an infusion of cosmic sci-fi elements in its latest update across Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and mobile platforms. Dubbed “Space 54,” this update introduces a new bonus stage of the same name.
This stage is officially described as a “cosmic border-realm between this plane of existence and a sinister, third dimension.” Alongside this new stage, players can deploy two new characters, with one of them, Space Dude, taking center stage in Poncle’s energetic Space 54 trailer.
Accompanying the new characters are four fresh weapons, a new relic, and seven additional achievements dubbed EXTRA achievements. According to Poncle’s update notes, these achievements draw inspiration from the open-source game framework Phaser, originally used in the creation of Vampire Survivors. The notes express gratitude towards Phaser, acknowledging its instrumental role in the game’s development.
Poncle’s update also hints at upcoming content outlined in Vampire Survivors’ Chaos Roadmap, revealing that the next three updates have been planned. Responding to player demand for darker and more serious settings, the notes tease that one of these updates will fulfill those expectations, albeit not immediately.
Development efforts persist on Vampire Survivors’ online co-op mode, with Poncle providing a brief update on its progress while keeping details scarce for now. Additionally, Poncle reports positive progress in the studio’s collaborative endeavors with other indie developers.
In line with previous promises, today’s Space 54 update coincides with the public beta launch of Vampire Survivors’ cross-save feature on Steam and Android. Poncle urges players to provide feedback on this feature, emphasizing its importance due to the sensitivity of save data.
Furthermore, to commemorate the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Poncle has unveiled a special Vampire Survivors trailer reminiscent of the iconic PlayStation 1 teaser from 1997. However, the trailer’s contents and their relation to actual game content are left open to speculation.
