Colman Domingo, known for his roles in “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Euphoria,” addressed the swirling rumors about his potential involvement with Marvel, particularly in light of the recent controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors, who had been tied to the role of Kang.
While Domingo clarified that he hasn’t been directly informed about the Kang casting rumors, he revealed that his team has indeed been in discussions with Marvel regarding possible involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for quite some time.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Domingo expressed uncertainty about the authenticity of the discussions, stating, “Do I know this to be true or not? I actually don’t know.” However, he emphasized trust in his team’s judgment, suggesting that any discussions brought to his attention are likely substantial. “My team doesn’t bring me something unless it’s real,” he added.
The actor remained open to the prospect of joining the MCU, saying, “I would welcome a conversation around it.” This sentiment comes amidst ongoing speculation and recasting rumors following Majors’ legal issues and subsequent departure from Marvel Studios.
In December 2023, Majors faced legal troubles and was subsequently dropped by Marvel. This led to speculation about the future of his character, Kang, who was poised to be a central figure in Marvel’s Phase 5 and Phase 6 plans. Reports indicate that Marvel Studios is reworking its fifth Avengers movie, previously titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” potentially altering or eliminating Kang’s role altogether.
Domingo acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Majors’ involvement in the MCU and its impact on the broader narrative, stating, “Whatever they’re working out with Jonathan [Majors] and his legacy in the MCU, I feel like I just have to be in my own lane.”
Despite the speculations and conversations, Domingo reiterated his stance of waiting until concrete opportunities materialize before fully engaging with the possibility of joining the MCU.
Beyond the realm of superhero franchises, Domingo’s career continues to flourish. He’s currently nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin in the 2023 Netflix movie “Rustin.” Additionally, Domingo is slated to portray Joe Jackson in an upcoming Michael Jackson documentary and is set to direct and star in a Nat King Cole biopic, showcasing his versatility and depth as a performer.
