Tony Khan, the president of AEW, recently addressed the possibility of stepping into the wrestling ring himself. Additionally, he shed light on his primary focus as a booker within the promotion.
During an appearance on the Levack and Goz podcast, Khan emphasized that he has no plans to engage in in-ring competition. Instead, he intends to remain behind the scenes, concentrating on showcasing the talent and crafting compelling storylines for the audience:
“I don’t think anybody really wants to see that,” Khan remarked. “Not anytime soon. That’s not anything I think we’re going to do. I do think AEW has a great roster, the best wrestlers in the world. I would rather try to put the best matches and we have exciting rivalries building in AEW right now.”
Expanding on the future of AEW’s flagship event, Double or Nothing, Khan confirmed its return to Las Vegas. Originally held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada, on May 25, 2019, Double or Nothing quickly established itself as one of AEW’s premier pay-per-view events. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, subsequent editions were relocated to Daily’s Place in Florida.
Now, with the situation improving, Khan expressed his enthusiasm for returning Double or Nothing to its roots in Las Vegas. Reflecting on the significance of the city in AEW’s history, he highlighted the venue’s role as the site of the company’s inaugural show:
“Absolutely, we’ve built a great tradition here in Las Vegas,” Khan affirmed. “I love it out here, and I think it’s very special that we’re here where it all started five years ago – the site of the very first AEW show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.”
As preparations for Double or Nothing 2024 unfold, fans eagerly anticipate the evolution of AEW’s signature event.
