As Sting’s storied career approaches its final chapter, concerns have arisen regarding his treatment in the ring by some AEW stars, sparking commentary from WCW veteran Disco Inferno.
With Sting slated to retire from in-ring competition in March 2024, there’s heightened scrutiny surrounding his safety, particularly during high-risk maneuvers often associated with the wrestling legend’s performances.
During a recent episode of AEW Dynamite, Sting and Darby Allin faced off against Ricky Starks and Big Bill in a Street Fight for the World Tag Team Title.
The match featured several intense moments, prompting Disco Inferno to voice his disapproval of the physicality exhibited towards Sting by certain AEW competitors.
On an episode of Keepin’ It 100, Disco Inferno expressed concern over what he perceived as AEW stars being “rough” and “stiff” with Sting, emphasizing the need for greater care and consideration for the veteran wrestler’s well-being:
“This was disturbing to watch. I am not a fan of Sting diving off of the balcony onto (…) bro when I’m watching Sting out there, and this has happened with House of Black and stuff like these guys like in Big Bill and stuff. Bro, they don’t really look like they’re trying to take care of Sting. They are very snug and stiff with him. There is a spot where Big Bill clotheslines Sting on the floor. They’re just very rough with him.”
Disco Inferno’s remarks highlight a broader concern within the wrestling community regarding the balance between entertainment and wrestler safety, particularly for performers like Sting, who continue to push the boundaries despite their advancing age.
As Sting’s final match looms on the horizon, speculation mounts over his potential opponents and the creative direction leading up to the event.
With rumors circulating about The Young Bucks as Sting’s last adversaries at Revolution 2024, fans eagerly anticipate how AEW will handle the conclusion of The Icon’s illustrious career and the ongoing rivalry with his adversaries.
