Hidden Path Entertainment founder and creative director Michael Austin confirmed via LinkedIn yesterday that the studio has undergone layoffs, affecting 44 employees, as reported by Game Developer.
According to the studio’s website, it boasts a team of “over 65” developers.
“For over six months, our team at Hidden Path Entertainment has been actively engaged in discussions to secure alternative funding for an exciting RPG project,” Austin stated.
“Given the challenging landscape, we are now compelled to halt development on this project and downsize the company until such time as we can revisit it.”
The RPG project in question appears to have been a Dungeons & Dragons game that Hidden Path had been collaborating on with Wizards of the Coast.
Although reports suggested its cancellation by Wizards of the Coast in January of the previous year, Hidden Path maintained the project was still ongoing at the time.
Notably, it remains prominently featured on the Games section of Hidden Path’s website.
