Capcom has revealed new gameplay features for Monster Hunter Wilds through a series of brief videos, showcasing various enhancements designed to improve the gaming experience. Like its predecessor, Monster Hunter Rise, the game aims to be more accessible to newcomers.
A notable addition is the Focus Mode, which allows players to deliver powerful strikes with greater precision. This mode enables hunters to aim attacks or set up defenses according to the camera’s view, highlight monster wounds to deal extra damage and target vulnerable spots for more effective hits.
Focus Mode is a significant update, letting players aim attacks more accurately and identify weak points on monsters by repeatedly striking the same area. This feature also facilitates delivering Focus Strikes, which are potent attacks aimed at these identified vulnerabilities, thereby increasing the effectiveness of each strike and making hunts more strategic.
Another gameplay feature highlighted is the wrist-mounted “Slinger” crossbow. This tool allows players to fire projectiles that can disorient monsters and retrieve items from the environment. The videos also introduce the personal Secreit mount and demonstrate the combat mechanics of using a great sword, adding depth to the range of available tools and combat styles in the game.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Capcom plans to utilize the advanced capabilities of current-generation consoles to enhance the game’s graphical fidelity and introduce a greater variety of monsters, providing players with a richer and more challenging hunting experience.
Additionally, the game’s director, Yuya Tokuda, discussed how Monster Hunter Wilds will feature large herds of creatures and apex monsters, which will contribute to more dynamic gameplay moments. Improvements to co-op multiplayer matchmaking have also been made, aiming to create a smoother and more integrated cooperative experience for players.
