During the WWE NXT episode on May 28, the announcement came through that rapper Sexyy Red would be serving as the special guest host for the upcoming NXT Battleground premium live event set to take place in Las Vegas. However, her preparations for the event faced an unforeseen obstacle when news broke of her involvement in a physical altercation at Newark Liberty International Airport.
According to repors, security footage captured Red amidst a brawl, where she was observed holding a metal stand while others engaged in the altercation around her. Despite initial attempts to intervene, the situation escalated, leading to Red being briefly separated from the scene before returning shortly after.
Efforts were made by airport personnel to defuse the situation before police arrived to make formal arrests, including Red who was taken in for disorderly conduct. While the exact cause of the brawl remains unclear, some participants were booked on assault charges. Despite the incident, Red was released from custody shortly after, allowing her to proceed with her plans to host the NXT Battleground event in Las Vegas the following day.
At the NXT Battleground event, Red not only fulfilled her hosting duties but also interacted with NXT Superstars backstage, including Lola Vice and the newly crowned NXT Women’s North American Champion Kelani Jordan. She was also present during the closing moments of the event, celebrating Trick Willians’ successful NXT Championship title defense. Despite the airport incident, Red’s presence at the event remained a notable highlight of the evening.
